Arnab Ray is an avid blogger-cum-author, who first came out with May I Hebb Your Attention Pliss, published by Harper Collins. This book was a hit and was on India Today’s Bestsellers list.
On his blog, which is one of India's most widely read blogs, he provides readers with a sarcastic take on the Indian film industry, Indian politics and society. He has written extensively for newspapers and magazines like the Washington Post, Outlook magazine and Live Mint.
Ray graduated from Jadavpur University as a Bachelor in Computer Science and Engineering and went about finishing his PhD in Computer Science from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is presently working as a research scientist at the University of Maryland. He lives in Washington DC.
Arnab Ray says that for him blogging is a good writing opportunity. “For me, the most attractive thing about blogs is that they provide opportunities for people like me, who are outsiders in the sense that we do not belong to the media fraternity, to have a global audience for our opinions. It also enables me to connect with people who share my interests and an opportunity that I would not get if I restricted myself to interacting with people in my immediate geographical area.”
Ray has now come up with a fiction, titled The Mine, which was launched recently. Speaking about his recent work of fiction, he says, “This isn't like the usual kinds of books published in India as it does not have that happy upbeat sort of ending. The story is rather horrifying and depressing and in India there is really no such horror genre.”
